Friday evening was the Riverview 5k that I had really wanted to run but I passed since I had struggled last week with just running 2mi and feeling OK. I'm kinda glad I did since the course is basically just a big downhill and a big uphill which would have put too much pressure on the foot. I was still disappointed.
So about 5 to midnight tonight, I decided to start the week off right and get a run in. I only had my old
shoes which are definitely well beyond their effectiveness, but I had my
less worn shoes at work. I headed out and slowly climbed the 1/2 mi hill to begin my run. Not too bad, about a 12:00 pace. Kept going and after about a mile I decided since this 59o weather felt so nice and my foot was doing fine that I was going to get my 5k in. I kept thinking I'd run the 5k then I'd walk back with a little jog here and there if I could muster it. I did the 3.12mi in just under 30:00 which isn't too bad. I didn't feel like I was pushing it at all, focused mostly on the feet. Not much soreness, so I was pretty happy. Definitely some fatigue, but I was feeling better than last week. I walked back about .6mi and started getting chilled so I needed to jog so I jogged most of the way back with a little walk here and there. I even got a couple 1/4mi sub-8:00 pace "sprints" in. Felt good to be able to pick it up some. I'll take the next day or two off to keep the recovery going, but this was a positive run. It's starting to come back a little. :-)
