In late 2008 I decided I needed to get in better shape and started running again.  I ran my first formal road race ever, a half marathon, in late 2009.

(unofficial) Track 1 Mile - 7:32 (4/24/2010)  6:56 (9/27/2010)

5k - 27:31 - Riverview Run on 06/11/2010
22:39 - Gatorade Steelers 5k on 09/04/2010

10k - 50:43 - Riverside Run on 04/10/2010

Half - 2:02:58 - Just a Short Run on 03/27/2010
1:51:47 - IKEA Montour Trail Half on 09/11/2010

Short-Term Running Goals:

2011 Races:

Sept 25 - The Great Race 10k (59:15)
Nov 5 - Dirt Monster 5mi (52:59)

2012 Races:

June 8 - Riverside 5k  (27:49)
Sept 2 - Gatorade Steelers 5k (route) with Steve!  (27:39)
Sept 30 - The Great Race 10k (route)  (53:48)
Nov 3 - The Dirt Monster 5mi (52:55)

2013 Races:

May - Pittsburgh Marathon (started, but DNF about the half way point)
June - Riverview 5k  - Bummed I missed signing up for this one. It's one of my favorites!
Sept - Gatorade/Steelers 5k. (Signed up!)
Sept - IKEA Montour Trail Half  (prob not, but leaving it on here)
Sept - The Great Race 10k (My Running 101 goal race)
Nov - Dirt Monster 5mi (Gotta do it again no matter what!)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Finish recovering from my injuries and build mileage.  That is all.

Personal:

My name is Wes, I'm married with two wonderful children. The nickname BaldNSpicy came from the fact that I have been balding for a (long) while now and spicy for my love of very spicy foods (Thai and extremely hot wings are my favorites).  If eating doesn't bring me near tears and leave me sweating, it's not worth eating.  :-)

Oh, and I'm also known for my doorags.

Well, I'm finally making my 2012 debut.  I signed up for my employer sponsored Marathon Training Program last week.  I signed up for the full, but after a few days of thinking about it, I don't think I'll be ready to do it the first week of May.  I could try, but trying to build mileage in 16 weeks or so would just result in injury.  So, I think I'll stick with a solid half and see how it goes.

Got in 3k today in 20:00 which was about all the time I had, but was about all my legs could do.  I'm looking at a few races in the next couple months to get me motivated again and get some miles under my belt before the training officially starts next month (I think).

I'm just happy to be back, happy to be able to spend some time catching up on a few race reports, and just thinking about running again.

...

No, I can't stop my post quite yet.  I hopped on one of the new treadmills at our gym at work.  Pretty freakin sweet, but not what I was going to say.  I'm about a mile into my run, just kinda watching everyone.  The music is jammin' and on comes the song I'm Sexy and I Know It...or at least that's what I think it's called.  I had to wonder...how many of those people in the gym right then thought the song was about them??  The things that make you go hmm!

That is not really a song, it is talking over music. Glad to see you are running again!

Hey, BnS is back! I've missed your 80s references, but is Things that make you go hmmm even from the 80s? Don't get all modern on me.

So you signed up for training, but did you actually register and pay for the race? That is one way to keep up the motivation!

Agreed, Steve. Like we needed a follow on to I'm Too Sexy. What more needed to be said than "I'm too sexy for my shirt" as we rip it off?

Joe, I'd say I wouldn't have missed your BQ, but I did. Congrats!

I haven't paid for it because we get a discount...and if we finish the program we can win several free entrance fees! Still waiting on the details of the program but there are early, noon, and evening runs during the week, plus a long run on the weekends. The other races, I need to get paid. :-)

Start with the 1/2 in May and then you'll be ready for the Tunnel in July :)

Glad to know I can still come hang out at your place after the race all smelly and sweaty. I'll probably just crash on your couch, floor, driveway...

Steve, Mike is just tempting me to come back and run with him. It's mighty tempting!
