Nov 3 - The Dirt Monster 5mi (52:55)

2013 Races:

May - Pittsburgh Marathon (started, but DNF about the half way point)
June - Riverview 5k  - Bummed I missed signing up for this one. It's one of my favorites!
Sept - Gatorade/Steelers 5k. (Signed up!)
Sept - IKEA Montour Trail Half  (prob not, but leaving it on here)
Sept - The Great Race 10k (My Running 101 goal race)
Nov - Dirt Monster 5mi (Gotta do it again no matter what!)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Finish recovering from my injuries and build mileage.  That is all.

Personal:

My name is Wes, I'm married with two wonderful children. The nickname BaldNSpicy came from the fact that I have been balding for a (long) while now and spicy for my love of very spicy foods (Thai and extremely hot wings are my favorites).  If eating doesn't bring me near tears and leave me sweating, it's not worth eating.  :-)

Oh, and I'm also known for my doorags.

Running 101 class:  Jog 90 sec then walk 2mins for 20 mins total (1.61mi).  Wasn't very social today...Wish I could say it was the Pirates double-header with the Cardinals that was distracting me, but it wasn't.  Although they were 1-1 in the first game when we ran close enough that I could see the scoreboard. Took it pretty easy, HR got up to about 160 max which is pretty high for about a 9:00-8:50 pace during the jog portion. Did our stretching then went back to the gym.

Hopped on the treadmill for a few minutes to get a little more mileage in and try to work out some of the soreness.  Did 1min walk; 2min jog @ 10:00 pace on 2% incline.  Nothing real tough, but my HR was getting way up there hitting 170!  I haven't hit the 170's since my Steeler 5k so obviously the body was working hard.  Legs starting feeling a little rubbery towards the end and I didn't even do a mile.

I've got a long way to go...but I'll get there. I'm working hard at staying positive and just taking it easy and building slowly.  I'm just glad I'm coming back since I was close to throwing in the towel on running all together.

The Running 101 class is good for me right now because it forces me to take it easy and not overdo it.  Most everyone in the class is a new runner so there's not a lot of competition to be the fastest in the class.  So it's what I need right now.  I just need to be a better person, be more social and offer any help & encouragement I can to the other runners.

I almost threw the towel in on running, too, but I'm getting too fat. Does HR stand for home run or heart rate? :)

Yeah, my fatness has kept me coming back for more torture too. The Pirates need 170+ HRs to keep the winning streak! Let's go Buccs!

Consistency is the key, that's what they tell me. Good to see you back at it BnS!

I'm not sure where I heard consistency mentioned, but I think I'll give that a try. ;-) Thanks SpeedyJoe.

Way to stay at it. Glad to see you getting back on the horse. Keep up the good work. I wish I was going to be there for the Steeler 5k with you. But I know you will do good. Keep it up!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the support! I wish I had a little more time before the Steeler 5k to get some more mileage in and improve on my time from last year, but it will be fun either way.
