Long-Term Running Goals:

Personal:

My name is Wes, I'm married with two wonderful children. The nickname BaldNSpicy came from the fact that I have been balding for a (long) while now and spicy for my love of very spicy foods (Thai and extremely hot wings are my favorites).  If eating doesn't bring me near tears and leave me sweating, it's not worth eating.  :-)

Oh, and I'm also known for my doorags.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor...won't you be mine?

Running in the city where Mr. Rogers was filmed, I have to say, today was a great day compared to the many that have been in the recent past.  Although I ran on the TM (yuck!), it was a wonderful run...not because I bested by previous injured record on the TM's 5k program by 2 minutes (ha ha), but because I had a minuscule amount of pain in my achilles during or afterward!  I did walk about the 3.9k mark for a minute and took the final 4% incline hill slower to minimize the chances of doing any damage, but I'm very happy with the workout.

It's 33 days until my Half I was hoping to be well enough to run, so that should be enough time to build up the mileage again to where I may be able to meet my previous (and only) PR on that course...at least that's the plan!

To celebrate my run, and to give a shout-out to Mr. Rogers (may he rest in peace), here's a couple of photos from when our family went to the TV station, WQED, to view the setup of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood in the original recording studio, the last time it would ever be displayed again before being retired forever.  The dinosaur sits outside WQED year-round.  During this last snow storm, I drove by the dino probably 10 times over the course of the week and it was generally cleared of snow - I watched 3 university students brush snow off it as they walked by on their way to campus.  They may be walking through a foot of snow on the uncleared sidewalk, but the dino was always cleared of snow.  A tribute to the wonderful man Mr. Rogers is and how even those growing up long after the taping of his show ended still know and love him.

Enough of my long-winded tribute.  Here are the pics.  Sorry for the poor quality - cell phone camera.  Pretty sad when you forget the real camera, but it's made even worse when you get to stand in line for 4 hrs listening to your wife tell you how it would have been nice to have a decent camera to take pictures.  Sigh...Oh well, It's good in the hood!

Looks like you're on the mend, nice run.

I'm pretty jealous you got to see the Land of Make-Believe close up. The character I remember best is that witch-looking lady with the red nose.

Thanks Joe. The set was really cool. They even had the original piano that was used to play all the music during the show - it was done live! They also had a tile that was never painted over (the rest of the studio floor had been painted black) that showed the original color dot that the set had. Very cool.

Oh, and Mr. McFeeley was there both days and greeted every person that came through. They took polaroids of everyone (we got one for each kiddo, my wife and I, and then the family) with him. He took at least 5 minutes with our family talking to us and asking about what we remember the most. Even after being on his feet for the second day and about 8 hours into the 12 hrs the set was open, he greeted us with the biggest smile and treated us like we were the first ones through. We could also put our address on the back of a photo of him and he took them back afterward and write a personal greeting with his signature. He did this for thousands of them. I need to find those polaroids. He still looks great!

Bald, glad to see you are on the mend, and I appreciate the nod to Mr. Rogers. Not sure there was ever another one like him -- glad to hear they keep the snow away like that.

Baldy- Nice to see you getting better. Good luck with the achilles. I used to watch Mr. Rogers whenever I stayed home sick as a kid. That weird lady (Lady Elaine??) used to scare the crap out of me.
