Sept - Gatorade/Steelers 5k. (Signed up!)
Sept - IKEA Montour Trail Half  (prob not, but leaving it on here)
Sept - The Great Race 10k (My Running 101 goal race)
Nov - Dirt Monster 5mi (Gotta do it again no matter what!)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Finish recovering from my injuries and build mileage.  That is all.

Personal:

My name is Wes, I'm married with two wonderful children. The nickname BaldNSpicy came from the fact that I have been balding for a (long) while now and spicy for my love of very spicy foods (Thai and extremely hot wings are my favorites).  If eating doesn't bring me near tears and leave me sweating, it's not worth eating.  :-)

Oh, and I'm also known for my doorags.

Ok, so explain this to me (because obviously I didn't get it):

Who in their right mind would do an upper body/"guns" workout to the point they know they'll feel it, the day before the forecast was for "8-10" inches of wet, heavy snow - knowing they'll probably have to shovel it?

Oh, and for once, our weatherman was right (shocker!)...we did get "8-10" of snow by Saturday night"....only we got that by 8pm FRIDAY night!  It's 7am Saturday and we have 24"+!  I wouldn't care except that I had to park my car at the grocery store at the bottom of our street (very steep hill) and walk up last night since I couldn't get up the hill.  I'll have to shovel my way down our long, steep driveway to even go see if my car is still there or whether they towed it.  And...our street isn't plowed enough yet to get my car up here anyways!

I only got 3.5 hrs of sleep last night because I couldn't fall asleep - not unusual - but at 3am, I look out to see that about 18" of snow is making our gazebo start to lean to one side.   Memorandum:  This spring get that darn thing on solid footings and level!  So, I have to go find my heavy rope in my messy garage, go out and secure the gazebo to the only big, heavy object close enough to it - the van - with the rope, then get the ladder and rake out and go get all the snow off it before going to bed.  It's got another 6" up there now, so I'll be out doing it again soon.  My wife can thank my insomnia (and my mad Eagle Scout knot skills) for the fact that we still have a standing gazebo since guaranteed that thing would be on the ground this morning if I hadn't secured it properly.  It was leaning pretty badly under the weight of that snow.

FRB friends:  pray for my arms, chest and back...and for me to get a brain by the next time I think about doing a "guns" workout before a predicted snow storm!  :-(

Evening update:  Ok, so we got about 18-20" which is a blizzard for us here.  Apparently, it rivals the "blizzard of 1996" or something like that.  Finally got the driveway shoveled and the car up the hill and driveway at about 6pm tonight.  Here's a few pics for you to enjoy!

Gotta get them knees up to get through the snow!

Workin' on the form  :-)

I spent 2 year in the Upstate New York area and part of PA, and remember the snow storms. We get snow in Utah but no were close to the amount in the area next to the great lakes. Hearing your snow shoveling reminds me I am glad I don't live in it any more.

Good luck with your goals, Little advice go into your first half and full marathon with the goal of finishing. If you are trying to beat your younger brothers St. George marathon time at a different marathon that is hard to do. St. George drops 2500 feet in elevation and 2000 feet in the last half.

Thanks Mattrow. This is the first time in 4 winters that I regretted not getting that snow blower the first year we lived here. Although I probably would have sold it by now since I wouldn't have used it...until today. I'm crazy sore tonight but I just think about the sweet arms and pecks I'll have tomorrow. lol

Thanks for the advice. I really try to stay reasonable. You can read about my first Half in my race reports. It was a great experience and I'll be training specifically to rock my PR in that race this year. Next year, I plan to be ready for my first Marathon. I know trying to beat my bro's time in a different marathon is crazy, especially since we don't have a wimpy 2500 elevation drop marathon out here. haha No disrespect intended to any of you that have raced it - any marathon is hard. I just have to tell myself that he did a 4:15 on a downhill course so when I do sub-4 on a flatter course I can tell him his old bro kicked his butt even more. :-)
